I'm thinking about doing a long-term trip in August through Spain. I read in a few places that it's best to avoid Madrid and the south due to scorching temperatures. Any thoughts on that?
What are some of the best areas to visit during a summer trip?
I will likely be traveling alone or with one other person!
Madrid can be very hot in August but it's still worth visiting to see the Prado museum, other art galleries, palaces, etc. Most places have air-con. Barcelona is in the north and by the coast. It's always crowded but it's a very vibrant city and great to wander around. Valencia and Alicante are both by the coast and are fabulous cities. Both have historic centres, great indoor markets, shops, and art galleries, and are easy to walk around. Alicante has a beautiful castle too.
