Great cities to visit between Amalfi Coast and Rome

Ciao we are staying in Rome and a few places along Amalfi Coast this August/Sept (2 weeks)...we have 2 nights/3 days that are unaccounted for.  We are looking for another area to visit that is on the way back from Amalfi Coast towards Rome our departure city.  We prefer to stay in 1 place for the 2 nights (and not hotel hop) so looking for an area that has enough to explore/see for 2 days.   We LOOOVE the water, great wine and food.

If you don't mind a little chaos, then Napoli, of course.  Great food, architecture, real slice of life and people, museums, churches and close to Pompeii for a half day side trip.  Yes, it is a little dirty and crazy, but well worth a visit!

Mentioned in this answer:

  1. Napoli (attraction)
  2. Pompeii (city)
