What's a good off-the-grid type getaway around Southern/Central California?

Need an escape from the city life in L.A. and looking for something off-the-beaten-path, beautiful, adventurous, and with some kind of unique accommodations--in a perfect world (think yurts, treehouses, cabins, etc.).

Rent a rustic cabin at the Idyllwild Inn.  Lots of hiking and other outdoor activities and just enough civilization around if you want it.

Don't waste too much time driving someplace. Go "glam-camping" at El Capitan State Beach in Santa Barbara, Then, to extend your trip, drive a bit farther north for the really "off-the-grid" location and rent one of the cabions at Jalama State Beach. These are AWESOME places!
