We recently spent two months in Colombia and Ecuador. The highlight was booking a "last minute" catamaran 6 day Galapagos Cruise. Not to be missed! Cartagena, Medellín, Bogota, and Salento in Colombia were all wonderful as were the Ecuadorian busrides to a variety of small indigenous "market towns", Mayan ruins of Ingapirca, beautiful waterfalls, cable rides and zip lining in Banos, river walks in scenic Cuenca (Ecuador), and historic Old Town. People everywhere are warm and welcoming. The local food was not as spectacular as hoped, but the variety of "international fare" is available everywhere. Enjoy!

Hello Sarah!  Our only experiences in South America have been in EcuadorQuito, and Galapagos.  Quito did not blow our socks off, but was still very enjoyable.  I think going to Galapagos is a must do in South America.  We chose a "land based tour," which means we were not on a cruise ship.  We visited three islands over the course of a week On small boats. So many options on how to do it, but had some incredible wildlife experiences.  We will also be in SantiagoAtacama RegionColchagua Province, and Easter Island in February.  While I have not been to these areas yet, I can tell you our excitement level is very high and I would recommend at least researching these areas.
