My husband and I will be spending 17 days in SA in January. We arrive in Rio (3 days) and depart from Buenos Aires (3 days). I'm trying to decide between a few itineraries for the 11 days in between:
1: Uruguay (Carmelo) x 3 days, Bariloche x 3 days, El Calafate (Torres del Paine, Perito Moreno glacier) x 3 days (flying between each place with 2 days marked for travel)
2: Ushuaia x 3 days, El Calafate x 3 days, Bariloche x 3 days (flying between each place with 2 days marked for travel)
3: Road trip from Ushuaia or Rio Gallegos to Bariloche
We generally like to rent a car and do a road trip for a portion of each vacation we take, so I would prefer option #3 if it's feasible. I'm having a hard time finding one-way car rental options for less than $320USD/day. Any thoughts or suggestions about this itinerary and/or renting a car would be appreciated.
Doing a road trip for Ushuaia to Bariloche would be really cool, but I don't have any suggestions for finding a cheaper car rental. If you are looking for flights in Patagonia, the state run airline in Argentina is cheap http://www.lade.com.ar/. If it was me picking I would go with the options in reverse order 3,2,1.
