Shanghai is a big city that means you hardly enjoy it at its full in 1 or 2 days. However, these are some highlights you shouldn't miss:

Zhujiajiao is situated forty seven kilometers away from Shanghai. It is a typical and ancient water town in Qingpu District, south of the Yangtze River, which has almost 1,700 years of history.

Nanjing Road is one of Shanghai's famous shopping streets and was one of the best built and busiest roads in the 1940’s. The road stretches from The Bund east towards Hongqiao, with Shanghai's centre point People's Square in the middle.

Oriental Pearl City Television Communication Co., Ltd. with a height of 468 meters high is the 4th highest in Asia and the 6th highest tower in the world.

Riverside Promenade (Bingjiang Da Dao)

滨江大道 Pudong Riverside Promenade

Garden of Contentment or Yuyuan Garden Station is an ancient place for classical and lovely view to enjoy relaxed ambiance.

Here is my itinerary in Shanghai for 4 days, you can give it a view for more information of hotels, transportation and accommodation: https://www.justgola.com/plan/a-great-4-day-plan-for-family-with-kid-in-shanghai-15044

Here is a lot of stuff for Shanghai...

Somehow I did all of this in 10 days....and all of this in 10 hours on my second trip.

Pudong, Shanghai

Futuristic new financial district...other side of river

Go to 92 floor of Hyatt In Shanghai World Financial Center

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g308272-d1196260-r135751247-Shanghai_World_Financial_Center-Shanghai.html

Huge mall...

Pearl Tower

Apple Store

Don't take the trolly that goes under the river to cross the river from Pudong to Bund...its a gimmick.  Subway or cab is better.

The Bund Riverside Hotel Shanghai

On the water...british looking

M on the Bund (fancy but nice views)

Or go to another restaurant nearby on the Bund

New World or Xintiandi

Nice area...new development...western...shopping

Tianzifang

French Concession - really cool area...Feels like France.

Its a big area so maybe drive around a little to see it.

Tianzifang - art and little shops.

Nanjing Road

Long road with shopping...can take subway to/from Pudong very easily.

Niketown...Center of this area is where the Howard Johnson hotel is.

580 Nanjing West Road - fake market

580 Nanjing West Road | 南京西路580号

Upstairs...ask to see the booklets...go in the secret rooms...then demand to see the BETTER stuff...in secret compartments in secret rooms....The very best stuff they will go and get and bring to you.  Your price is not good unless they are offended by your offer.  Then walk away and they will come get you...

Here is a really funky restaurant that you may like

Yingqi Renjian

Have fun!
