John from Omaha, Nebraska asked

Best coffee shops

Since Seattle is kind of known as coffee city, where can I get the best cups and bags of beans?  I'll be staying around the downtown area so anywhere around there would be awesome!

Seattle (Washington)

Caffe Vita is one of Seattle's classic coffee houses and Stumptown Coffee makes some of the best coffee on earth.

If you are in the central shopping district near Pike, you must go to Monorail Coffee.

So many choices!  Here are a few noteworthy ones:

  • Original Starbucks -- hear me out on this one: the one at Pike Place Market is the very first Starbucks ever so it's a cool spot to visit just for coffee history's sake
  • Espresso Vivace Roasteria -- a local favorite, they have both a cafe and a stand in Capitol Hill
  • Stumptown Coffee -- very small chain that originated from another coffee-loving town, Portland. Lucky for Seattle, they have two locations there
  • Victrola Coffee -- they have three locations, but I especially love their E. Pike St. one because you can see them roasting coffee through a window
  • Seattle Coffee Works -- a good one downtown
  • Bedlam Coffee -- they make creative drinks, include lattes with Nutella and lavender in them
  • Bauhaus Books & Coffee -- love the decor and the very cool upstairs area from which you can see the Space Needle

With so many choices, you'll be leaving Seattle highly caffeinated :P

Fremont is not too far from downtown and has my 2 favorite coffee shops. Fremont Coffee Company and Milstead & Co.. Fremont has their own roasts and sells cool diner style mugs and Milstead had a wonderful range of beans and excellent service!

Ooooh, I've gotta try these places! Haven't been to many places in Fremont! By the way, I'm a community manager here and I've helped you highlight the places in your answer on a map! In the future, you can do this yourself as you answer a question by simply typing the @-symbol followed by the name of the place. Take a look at your map next to your answer :)

Seattle Coffee Works is heaven for coffee fanatics. These guys treat a cup of Joe like a sommelier treats a bottle of fine wine. They experiment with brewing methods, different grinds, temperatures and more. Prepared to have your mind blown.
