My family is looking to make a day trip out to Mt. Rainier from Seattle in early August. I would like recommendations on hiking trails that are between 3 - 8 miles round trip with nice view and mid-range in difficulty level. Something that we can complete in about 5 hours. Thanks everyone.
I am a huge fan of Summit Lake! Relatively easy hike up and over a hill and into a secluded lake. Perfect for cold dips in the water while basking in the glorious views of Mt Rainier.
The Paradise area is a great launching point for hikes at Mt. Rainier. The views are spectacular and it's fun to visit the historic Paradise Inn. The Skyline Loop Trailhead starts here. It's about 5.5 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 1500. Amazing views and walks through the wild flowers.
Spray Park would be a good choice. Its about 8-10 miles round trip a little difficult but not too bad. Some nice views of the mountain along the way, then Spray Falls, and finaly ends at some meadows and boulder fields right at the foot of the moutain.
The hike to Burroughs Mountain Trail from the Sunrise area, the Fryingpan Creek hike up towards Panhandle Lake 4-H Camp , or the Glacier Basin Trail from the White River Amphitheatre would all also be good choices.
