My wife and I are going to Scotland in the spring and visiting Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Islay. We mostly have the sites planned, but the food is up in the air. Recommendations for authentic places to eat while there? We are looking to dine like locals, get off the beaten path.
Try the The Tailend Restaurant And Fish Bar in Ediburgh's Leith Walk. Amazing traditional Scottish Fish & Chips.
Glasgow- Hi, we like the Ox and Finch (920 Sauchiehall Street) in Glasgow which is like Scottish tapas. Very nice cooking - you have to book this well in advance. Plus, Glasgow is famous for its Indian restaurants! Our favourite is Mother India (28 Westminster Terrace). You'll see their locations on Maps. Both are between the West End and City Centre.
In Edinburgh, Fishers in Leith is a great spot right on the water for dinner - seafood is obviously their specialty. Kismot Restaurant is a great spot for Indian.
In Glasgow, Number Sixteen West End Ltd is fantastic, I'd definitely recommend reservations. Ashton Ln is a cobblestone alleyway with several fun bars and restaurants. If you like craft beer, BrewDog Glasgow is a cool spot right across from the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Have fun, Scotland is one of my favorite places in the world!
