In 2 weeks I will be going to California, Nevada, Illinois and Massachusetts, I will be coming from San Diego by Amtrak to Los Angeles and my hostel is in Santa Monica.
How hard is it to get from Los Angels Union Station to Santa Monica? and How can I get from Santa Monica to Hollywood? Thanks for your help :)
If you don't have a car you take the metro redline transi (train) from Union Station to Wilshire/Vermont. Then take the Metro Red Wilshire Bus which will take you directly to Ocean/Wilshire in Santa Monica. It will cost you $3.50 total it takes about 2 hours. Or you can always take an UBer from downtown to santa monica. Santa Monica to Hollywood take the same bus back to the train station. Then take Train to Highland and Hollywood which is the heart of Hollywood where the Mann's Chinese Theater is all the bars and clubs.

Santa Monica is one of the best places to stay in the Los Angeles area. You can take the the "Big Blue Bus" Rapid 10 Santa Monica Freeway Express from across the street from Union Station to Santa Monica. It will take just over an hour and costs $2. See http://bigbluebus.com/ for details. There is also bus service from Santa Monica to Hollywood. http://www.metro.net/ can give you details.
