Hey! I am going to San Miguel for a friend's wedding next week - first time in Mexico! I am coming with a couple of friends, we are all happy travelers and love meeting with local people & other travelers. We are in our late 20s and passionate about cultural spots & local art craft.
Sorry too late for your recent trip. But for future trips to SMA: Go online to Atencion (English language newspaper) and check out the Que Pasa section for the week's activities. Stop by the Biblioteca Pública de San Miguel de Allende in town for hard copies, lectures, concerts, Santa Ana Cafetería. Take a walking tour--we used Helene Kahn for private tour. Visit Fábrica la Aurora for arts/crafts/furniture--allow 2-3 hrs to explore. Taxi or drive to Atotonilco to visit the church; then on to Meyer Schacter's home/gallery Galeria Atotonilco; then on to La Gruta for the natural mineral hot springs for a dip, great margaritas and guacamole; take a tour of Guanajuato/Dolores Hidalgo. We loved Ricardo from Leandro Delgado Tours, a wealth of information. Visit artist Anado's home--see his website--amazing home/studio/grounds with mosaics--call to arrange tour first. Visit the Mask Museum at Bill and Heidi La Vasseur's Casa de la Questa--amazing collection! Call first. And the toy museum. Restos: ceviche at La Parada, El Rincón,The Restaurant, Calle Bugambilia, La Posadita, Cafe Rama, Moxi Restaurant.
