Ben from Bogota asked

Good area to stay in San Jose for one day

Hi I'm arriving in San Jose, Costa Rica and have a night there before I will be leaving to my next place.  What are some nice areas in San Jose that I could go to?  I know every travel site says to get out as soon as possible, but I'm sure there are some nice areas!

San Jose (Costa Rica)

Hi Ben~

Justin has made a terrific point. I wouldn't pay attention to travel site scare tactics.

During my time in San Jose I stayed at Hotel Grano De Oro It is a boutique hotel with a lovely restaurant and bar on the premises.

Hope this helps!

Safe travels~Ronelle

Hi Ronelle - Did you feel safe? Can we walk to some places downtown from here?

Kristen K. I felt safe! We walked around a few neighborhoods without any problems. Just be aware of your surroundings, just as we all should do in everyday life, anywhere in the world, including the US :)

First of all, don't put too much stock in that worn-out answer from travel guides. San Jose is actually pretty fun ... I just spent a long time walking around, literally getting lost in the process. I wandered into markets, stores and sodas - it was fun!

If you want a nice place to stay, a nearby area called Escazu is pretty cool. I stayed at a B & B there (sorry, can't remember the name) and went walking around at all hours.

Yeah those guide books all the say the same! I live in Bogota and I know some people get scared away by hectic cities. I'm hearing lots of good things about Escazu!

Saludos

We ate at the Costa Rica Beer Factory. It was in a really cute little hipster neighborhood. We stayed downtown at the Hotel Santo Tomas. It served it's purpose for one night.
