I've got a couple of favorites in the area.

Yank Sing Restaurant for dim sum is nice. always busy on the weekends but worth it imo.

Gott's Roadside for a burger it's a no brainer when you're ready for some american comfort.

Boulette's Larder is a french restaurant with an open kitchen. Literally feels like you're sitting in the kitchen. Brunch is great, but the blue ribbon item at this place is the difficult to create French pastry called a Canelé. It's the "I wish we had one of these places at home" kind of good!! It's crisp and kind of chewy on the outside and soft/moist on the inside. They only make them on the weekends and do a fixed amount each day, so don't go late!

Kokkari Estiatorio is high-end Greek food with a cozy vibe. Short walk from Ferry Building.

Boulevard is nice but mostly filled with out of town business travelers (like me)

Slanted Door is tasty vietnamese grub, but requires a reservation. They serve a limited menu in the bar, but it's not super comfortable.

Also fun to make it a european picnic lunch by just grabbing bread from Acme Bread Company and cheese from Cowgirl Creamery and a bottle from Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant sitting outside :)

If you're there, hop on the ferry to Sausalito and have a bite over there. If weather is nice, it's a lovely ride. Sushi Ran is always on everyone's top sushi in the city list.

Hard Water, Pier 3. An easy breezy short walk from the Ferry Building, next pier north. The flounder sandwich is quite good. Super whiskey selection. Go around 2pm for lunch as it's quieter

Go for the Thursday farmers market and try the Roli Roti Truck. They have the best porchetta sandwich (pork ternderloin, topped with crispy pork skin, arugula, onion marmalade, on an acme roll).
