Michael from Orlando asked

Restaurant for anniversary dinner

Wife and I will be making our first ever visit to San Francisco this August. While there we will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary (just the two of us) and would appreciate suggestions on a great restaurant to note the occasion. We like "white table cloths", active but not loud, variety of food choices. Thanks in advance!

How much do you want to spend?  If money is no object, go to Quince.

My favorite restaurant in San Francisco is located near Lombard Street called Isa.  Very relaxed atmosphere, excellent cocktails and very good quality dishes with good serving sizes.

The Michelin Guide has long been the gold standard in Europe when it comes to restaurant ratings. Over the past decade they've extended their reach to the USA focusing first on cities known for fine dining. That includes San Francisco.
If a restaurant makes it into this year's guide it will be good. If it gets one Michelin Star it will be very good, two stars and worth a detour, three stars and worth a journey. A chef who is able to achieve 3 stars becomes a celebrity and is highly reverred by his or her peers. San Francisco has 3 restaurants with 3 stars. That's a lot for one city. If you dine at one of them you'll be sure to have a great dining experience along with outstanding white table cloth decor and outstanding service. You will also clean any cobwebs out of your bank account.
San Francisco's current 3 star restaurants are: Atelier CrennBenu, and Quince.
