We are going to drive down the coast from San Francisco to Los Angeles and want to know attractions or towns to stop at along the way. Any recommendations are welcomed! :)
Hearst Castle is great, it's near Cambria which has lovely coastal views. Also if you time the season right you can see the hug elephant seals on the beach - def a worthwhile sight.
Lucky you Mallory. Best time of the year to do one of the best drives in the country! Here are some favorite must-see's, do's and stays...
Along the Pacific Coast Highway 1 of course...Big Sur Check out the famous Bixby Bridge. Enjoy the Redwoods. I think camping is the way to go but if not check in at Monterey see famous Monterey Bay aquarium and go sip wine in Carmel Valley. Some will argue with my advice of taking the 17-Mile Drive, but if you're road tripping all it is is a detour. So why not? It's a picturesque road, an out the window experience of sweeping ocean views and intriguing mansions.
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk If you want laid back, surf style and true California people watching, stop by Santa Cruz hit the beach boardwalk at night.
Santa Barbarais amazingly beautiful. Lots of shopping, art and outdoor eats. Within the county there's a lot of natural beauty. Pull over at Refugio Beach State Park as you approach Santa Barbara from the North.
Just past L.A., Orange County is a must-visit if you've never been. It will mean going south of L.A. but it's worth it. It's really incredible how the highway drives you past place to place to place. (Newport Beach Laguna Beach Dana Point I love the vibe in Laguna especially. Staying overnight there is surprisingly affordable and exceptional for the views and locality to bars and restaurants. If you want to add some fitness to the fun stay at Laguna Beach House and do their program: ( http://www.thelagunabeachhouse.com/specials/shape-surf-stay/ )
Hope that helps! Have fun!
