Stopping in San Francisco for one day in February. Would like to take a guided city tour. My husband does not want the Hop on Hop off buses, not enough one on one information. Want to see Alcatraz too ,but I can arrange that separate if needed. Any recommendations?
My wife and I did this tour, http://www.urbanhikersf.com It started at the Mission District and headed towards Twin Peaksbut that was just the beginning of our hike. We saw hidden parks, sections of the city we didn't know were there, got great stories and had a good time. Not a difficult hike but not an easy one either, very good option for doing something different. Check out the website, there are different tours to choose from. Alex the owner/tour guide will take care of you.

Not sure what they are called, but they are like go cars - very small, with a built in navigation tour setting.
My family used used San Francisco City Guides and they were terrific. It's all volunteer-run, so it's not just some rehearsed script a bored guide is reading from. Here's the link: http://www.sfcityguides.org
I think you may have to arrange seeing Alcatraz separately, though. Here's the link for that: http://www.nps.gov/alca/index.htm
