Mid-20's looking for places to see, to eat and things to do in a week?

A friend and I are staying for a week. We are adventurous mid-20's women who enjoy trendy-artsy things on a low to moderate budget.  We want to try new beers and explore the town.  Where can we grab delicious food/drinks?  What are some must sees and fun activities?  (we love the out-doors/hiking, shops, flea markets, etc.).  We already know we want to walk around La Jolla.

Be sure to visit North Park for a great area to hang out in.  This seems to be the area more suited for mid-late 20's vs. the Gaslamp Quarter downtown.  Urban Solace is one restaurant I would recommend in North Park for good food as well as some craft beers to go with it.  Waypoint Public adjacent to that also had a nice selection of food and beer.  Blind Lady Ale House is known as a craft beer mecca not too far from North Park.

Mentioned in this answer:

  1. North Park (attraction)
  2. Gaslamp Quarter (attraction)
  3. Urban Solace (restaurant)
  4. Waypoint Public (restaurant)

Take a Pacific Coast Highway tour north from La Jolla. First stop at Solana Beach and shop at the artsy Cedros Design District in Solana Beach. Next stop - spend a few hours on the beach at Cardiff by the Sea then head up to Encinitas for some good, casual eats. Continue on to Carlsbad (California) and walk off lunch with a walk on the boardwalk. Grab a glass of wine at Witch Creek Winery before heading inland to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets. Enjoy!

Two great vantage points to see in San Diego are Mount Soledad  and Cowles Mountain.  Soledad you just drive up from LaJolla but Cowles is a couple mile hike to the top.  Both have unique and awesome views of SD and the pacific.  If you are keen to try surfing go rent boards in Pacific Beach at the north end so you can walk north of Crystal Pier Hotel and surf Tourmaline Surfing Park

Mentioned in this answer:

  1. Mount Soledad (attraction)
  2. Cowles Mountain (attraction)
  3. Crystal Pier Hotel (hotel)
  4. Tourmaline Surfing Park (attraction)
