Andreas from Manhattan asked

Best of the best restaurants in San Diego?

My fiance are looking to catch some California sunshine one of these upcoming weekends.  For lunches, I'm looking for some place with a view, preferably a nice beach view.  As for dinner, I remember enjoying the Little Italy neighborhood, so if there are any good dinner spots there, that would be great.  Thanks!

There are several good lunch spots with a view around La Jolla Cove if you have a car.  George's At The Cove has two levels open for lunch, the rooftop and the bar level.  They have excellent food for the money and look down on the cove.

The La Valencia Hotel has a deck off the lobby that has a terrific view.  We had lunch there about a month ago and I thought the food was outstanding.

Eddie V's - La Jolla has a fantastic coastal view and we had an excellent lunch there recently.

Closer to downtown San Diego, Bertrand at Mister A's is one of the better (and more expensive) restaurants in town and they serve both lunch and dinner.  It has a sweeping view of the city and bay.

You can get a water view at downtown restaurants along the bay, but you won't see much sand.  Places to consider include Sally's Seafood on the Waterand The Fish Market.

You can hop the ferry to Coronado and have lunch at one of the restaurants that face the city.  We had a nice lunch recently at Il Fornaio and a less successful one at Candelas on the Bay.  If you have a car or take the ferry and a taxi, you can have lunch at the Hotel Del Coronado which is grand old hotel on the Beach.  Sheerwater is the best lunch choice there.

As for dinner spots in Little Italy, Juniper & Ivy is getting good press, although I haven't been there yet.  It is on the edge of Little Italy.  Trattoria Fantastica has been in Little Italy forever and has very good food and a nice patio in good weather.

You are very welcome. If you make it to SD, let us know how you liked it. The weather is still great.

I like Sheerwater at the Hotel Del Coronado for a good view.  Sbicca in Del Mar has a great view and really good food.  Juniper & Ivy is one of our hot new restaurants by Richard Blais and is really good.  It's not in Little Italy, but is close.  My favorite restaurant in Little Italy is Davanti Enoteca.

The Prado at Balboa Park is a really nice place... If you make reservations ahead, they have an awsome view and garden of the park, and the food is delicious...

Both menus (Lunch and Dinner) are awsome, I reallly enjoyed it!
