For a smaller, locally-owned option, you could try a B&B in the King William historic district. The Oge House Inn on the River Walk is a beautiful old house along the south part of the river, near the Southtown restaurants, etc. A few non-chain options downtown are Riverwalk Vista and Hotel Havana. Both in the $200/night range. While you are here, visit the old Pearl Brewery development which has a Saturday farmers market and great local restaurants and shops. If you want to visit the historic missions in a fun way, grab a bike from the Bluestar Arts Complex and ride along the Mission trail.

  1. Hotel Havana (hotel)
  2. The Oge House Inn on the River Walk (hotel)
  3. Riverwalk Vista (hotel)
  4. Pearl Brewery (attraction)
  5. Bluestar Arts Complex (attraction)

it depends on what you would like to do and see. The river walk is a favorite for many, but pretty pricey. I like Hyatt Place San Antonio Airport/Quarry Market on Jones Maltsberger. It is close to great restaurants, shopping and you can visit Pearl Farmers Market & take a water to the Riverwalk. It also is reasonably priced.

If you are wanting to stay at a nice place close to the airport,  Hyatt Place San Antonio Airport/Quarry Market or  Embassy Suites. My wife and I have stayed there a few times and it is a great place for couples and reasonably priced. Many times you can also find good deals for places on the Riverwalk, with numerous good options for couples like the  San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter or  Four Points by Sheraton San Antonio Downtown by the Riverwalk. If you can go a little pricier and want to feel out of town, try the  Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort - lots to do and a lot more space.

I stayed at the Drury Plaza Hotel Riverwalk San Antonio on the North Loop.  It was convenient to the freeway and had some very nice local eateries surrounding it.  If you're not looking for a downtown location where it's always busy, then staying on the outskirts of things may be for you.  You can get where ever you'd like quickly without having to deal with constant traffic (foot traffic or vehicle traffic).  It's about 15 mins from the airport, so that may be too far for you.  If so, then maybe the Embassy Suites on Hwy 281 or the Hyatt Regency you mentioned are better.  That's where I plan to stay next time.  Have fun!

I have stayed in most every hotel in downtown San Antonio at one point or another.  My favorite is Hotel Valencia Riverwalk, and their Mexican restaurant, Acenar, is the best on the riverwalk.  Also really enjoy the new Embassy Suites, Mokara Hotel & Spa (might be expensive), The Hilton Palacio del Rio (recently remodeled and a great location) and La Contessa (suite-style rooms with a spanish feel).  I would not recommend La Mansion, while very unique, each room comes with its own special noise-sometimes noisy pipes, or the trash bin outside your window).  Hope that helps!

The Hotel Havana.  It is the best place to stay in downtown San Antonio.  Be sure to check out the downstairs lounge. Ooh-la-la.
