Lisa from Sacramento asked

What is a must see between Sacramento, CA, and Bend, OR?

My husband and I will be driving from Sacramento, CA, to Bend, OR, in early August, what are some must sees along the way?  I just discovered the Mt Shasta Lavender Farm will be closed for the season August 4 the day we will be doing our drive north.

Hi Lisa,

I'm originally from Bend and have made the drive from LA to Bend on numerous occasions. I prefer driving up Highway 97 and taking detours to the places on this list. Not sure how much time you have on your drive but here are some interesting things along the way.

Crater Lake National ParkPaulina Lake Lodge

Lava River CavesLava Butte Geological Area

Lassen Volcanic National Park

Take a break from driving and stretch your legs at Sahalie Falls between Eugene and Sisters. It is a lovely stop and is quite refreshing.

You might stop by the Sundial Bridge in Redding.  Haven't seen it myself, but it is supposed to be pretty spectacular.

Thanks! Looks like that could be a quick detour and that's just what I was hoping to do.

Crater Lake National Park

Steens Mountain

There's so much gorgeous country in southern oregon and northern california, you can't go wrong as long as you get off the freeway.

You should definitely visit Steens Mountain Wilderness Resort for amazing high desert mountains and great hiking, camping and fishing. Also stop in Frenchglen for a great breakfast.
