Scooter/Vespa rental?

I will be in Rome the end of July with my boyfriend. We'd like to rent a Vespa as a way to see the city and explore more; is this a good idea and if so, where is the best place to rent one?

Hi Laura,

Rome is a huge city full of history, you can walk for days and days and discover new amazing places every moment. Rome is also a busy city and our traffic is crazy so to rent a scooter could be dangerous. I never recommend my guests to rent a scooter and always suggest them to rent a bicycle to discover Via Appia Antica or Villa Borghese both traffic free. If you and your boyfriend are good driver you can rent a vespa in Via Cavour where there are many bike and scooter rent like "Bici e Baci" or "on Road". Please read also this page seems to be what you are looking for.

Have a nice stay here in Roma

Hi Laura,

On one of my business trips to Rome i rented from BiciBaci ( and it was good. They have several types of scooters including Vespa and everything went nicely. I do recommend that you have some previous experience with scooters because traffic gets crazy in the area and not only from cars, but also from the other thousands of scooters in the city.

Also, make sure you get somewhat familiar with the Rome area map so that you don't have to be looking and stopping at every corner to see where you're going.

Good luck!

I agree with Paolo! Even riding a bicycle in Rome traffic can be difficult.

The traffic in Rome is CRAZY, to the point that walking you need to be aware of things. Unless you are a seasoned Vespa/scooter rider, I wouldn’t do it!
