Carolina from Miami asked

Car Service or Taxi from airport to hotel in Rome?

Hi Everyone!

I'm debating between a car service and a taxi from Rome FCO airport to our hotel near Vatican City.  Thoughts?  Which is better?

Thanks as always!!!

Car service is always better than a cab.  I used http://www.fattoricarservice.com/ and it worked out well.  Rome Airport Transfers.

The taxis in Rome have a flat fee and cannot charge you more than 49 Euro to take you from FCO to Rome or from Rome to FCO, so be careful with whoever wants to charge you more. The cheapest way is to take the train, however that will take a long time and since you pay per person around 20 Euro, it ends up being the same amount of money if you are going as a couple. I tried Uber but and cost me just slightly less than the taxi.

Taxi are pretty dependable, but we did use a car service and the cost was about the same.

I would take a private car.  You will be tired from the trip and it makes things easier.  It will cost 50 to 60 euros, depending on the company, and has the advantage of having the driver meet you. You can reserve online, and pay by credit card.  If your destination is outside the walls, you will probably be on the meter in a taxi, and the driver may drive you around a little, which is not uncommon for taxis in Rome.  Some of the private car companies are reviewed on Tripadvisor.

You can also save some money and take the non-stop Leonardo Express Airport Train to the Termini Station (14 euros per person 30 minutes) and then a taxi from there, or, more likely .  If you take the train, make sure you get a licensed taxi at Termini Station.  There will be men trying to talk you into their unlicensed taxis which will be located out another door, and they are notorious rip-off artists.

Hi Carolina,

A taxi is easier to arrange and slightly cheaper than a car service. Car services start at 50 euros not sure if it goes up if there are more people, whereas taxis are around 48 euros to the center of Rome (a little more since the Vatican is outside the city walls). If you want to save money you can take the SIT bus which picks you up at the airport, and stops in Vatican City before heading to Termini station (the main station in the center of the city). There are many other low cost options that take you to the center of the city which is a short metro ride from Vatican City if you are willing to hop on another form of transportation. If you want door to door service, taxi would probably be the best idea, since the rate is set, you know you won't be getting too ripped off.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
