We are looking to hire an RV from either Houston or Miami - depending on cost... we plan to visit New Orleans and work our way up to New York. We have already been to Washington/Chicago so looking for some new places. Can you suggest a good route?
There are definitely so many different ways you could go! Here is just one option to consider (starting at New Orleans since that seems like a must-see for you):
If you want to work with a road trip professional to customize a trip tailored to you, consider an inexpensive service like this one:

I took a three week road trip last year from Brooklyn and will do a month this year. Both times ending in NOLA as I'm buying a house there. Last year I did Memphis (a must), Asheville NC, Great Smoky Mtn Nat'l Park, Shenandoah Nat'l Park (like it much better than Smoky Mtn), Fallingwater near Pittsburgh and then NYC.
This year I'm going Nashville, Memphis again, Florence AL (want to see Muscle Shoals), NOLA, through Georgia down rural highways, Savannah GA, Charleston SC and then home to NYC.
Hope that helps. Have fun! Let me know if you want any more specific recommendations.
