Road trip Split, Croatia to Amsterdam

Driving from Split to AMS - Very expensive to drop car in AMS - thinking of dropping car off before AMS and taking a train into the city.  Any ideas on where (what city?) to drop the car to take the train?

The Netherlands has an excellent, safe and extensive rail network.

You can find times, details and fares in English for all Netherlands trains on the official site:

Which city you choose really depends on a) what route you will be taking and b) (most importantly) where you can actually drop off the car. Even the biggest companies don't have drop-off points everywhere!

Depending on route you might perhaps think of leaving the car in Eindhoven's-Hertogenbosch or Nijmegen....or, to save more money, you might think of leaving the car in Germany.  It's only 3h 25m by train to Amsterdam from Dusseldorf, for example, or you might consider EssenDortmund or Cologne (Koeln). 

Use the official German railway website in English to find train times, details and fares. There are very often excellent advance online discount fares available for the fastest trains:
