Hi Katie! I'm from RJ and there are thousands of interesting restaurants to try here, but if you like a great food, brazilian ingredients, nice atmosphere, I recommend CT Brasserie (you can find it in Village MallBarra da TijucaShopping Center Fashion Mall, taste the dulce de leche petit gateaux with tapioca ice cream - wonderfull), another one that I really like is Aconchego carioca - Bolinho Famoso  (is really good the food there), for a good pizza: Capricciosao in Copacabana and if you are with your partner, try the restaurant Gero  (a little bit expensive) and fancy. There's a nice place to go to try different kind of food and see nice people: Irajá restaurant from  the chef Pedro Artagão; it's located in Botafogo. Well...enjoy Rio and be happy!

Hi Katie! I live here and Brazilian cuisine is so varied since it mixes Portuguese, African, Indigenous, French, Italian and German influences.

Rio is a big city and there are so many good options. Also since Brazil is a big country, there are so many regional food styles, all of which can be found in the big cities.

I'd however advise for the restaurant Aprazível (meaning "pleasurable"), located in the neighborhood of Santa Teresa, not far from downtown. They offer a fusion of the cuisine of the state of Minas Gerais and French food. It also has a great view overlooking the city.
