Marina from Fort Lauderdale asked

Tips for a first time visitor to Rio?

Hi all,

I'm spending a weekend in Rio and was wondering if you have any tips for a first timer? Was there anything you wish you knew when visiting Rio de Janeiro especially as a solo female traveler? I'd appreciate any insight, thanks!

Don't wander off. Be aware of your surroundings. Don't show off your possessions when outside. Visit the statue of Christ the redeemer, lounge on Copacobana or Ipanema, cycle around the city using the nearly free Itau bikes, experience live jazz at Bip Bip. Drink fresh juice, eat feijoada, pao de quejo and churros.

Rent the Itau bikes for a day and bike along Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. From Ipanema you can cross over and bike around the the Lagoon, which is a really nice bike ride with nice restaurants and views.

Hi Marina! I highly reccomend Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, try a pinacolada in any place around "Arcos da Lapa", eat in Confeitaria Colombo and enjoy a samba at Beco do Rato. Of course, go to Sugarloaf Mountain of Pão de Açucar. Have fun!
