Lucky for you, I think most any restaurant in the area would be family appropriate.  Assuming you want something without a beer/burger/bar vibe, In Raleigh, I would look at Irregardless Cafe & CateringPoole'sCoquette Brasserie (French), Sitti(Lebanese), Bida Manda(Laotian) or 18 Seaboard. Even the more exotic sounding ones have something for everyone.

^I second that all of these places are amazing. Bida Manda is also really one-of-a-kind. Go check it out!

Their are so many to choose from! Downtown is our favorite place to go and try new places to eat. For barbeque try The Pit on W. Davie; Beasley's Chicken and Honey on Wilmington has great fried Chicken (on a waffle) and baked mac & cheese; the State Farmers Market has a great Restaurant on Lake Wherler Rd. Enjoy!
