Will be up in portland for a week and I am looking for good vegetarian food - such as great salads, soups, whole grain breads, etc.
thanks
Although I'm an omnivore, I wanted to throw my favorite vegan place in the mix, The Bye and Bye. They have great vegan dishes (notably, the Frito Pie, and my personal favorite, the BBQ Brussels Bowl) and great cocktails (a popular choice is their generously sized namesake cocktail with peach vodka, peach bourbon, lemon, cranberry juice, and soda). Enjoy!Above: The BBQ Brussels Bowl with a North Williams cocktail (Rebel Yell bourbon, Blenheim’s spicy ginger beer).
Portland is definitely the right city for vegetarian food!
For great sandwiches, check out the East Side Delicatessen. They have an entire separate vegetarian and vegan menu, and they have really, really good whole grain bread made locally by Dave's Killer Bread. Try the VegItalian. For Middle Eastern, go to Wolf & Bear's for their falafels. They have a couple permanent spots around the city, plus a truck, so I would check out their website for the closest one.
If you want a decent sit-down place, go to The Farm Cafe. Really great American veggie dishes.
And just because I'm gluttonous, I'm going to suggest Potato Champion. I'm going to assume that their fries are vegetarian because I remember quite a few of their sauces being pointed out as being vegan.
Enjoy yourself! :)
