Wineries in Portland or Willamette that are free and in close proximity?

Just saw a deal for Willamette Valley wine tastings and it was about $30.... So wondering if that is something you need or are they free?

I've been to Santa Barbara and Solvang area in Cali and there was no charge, so just checking in about that.

Thanks,

Amy

With more than 200 wineries filling the hills and valleys of Oregon Wine Country, it can be hard to know where to start. I've listed a number of picturesque vineyards where you can sample for free or low fee.  I think you are experiencing wineries who are trying to discourage people who are really not interested in buying but are more into a crawl or drinking mass quantities.  Here is a little tip.  Visit the website ahead of time.  If there is a "wine club", join it - there is usually no cost to join.  That usually gives you the credentials to taste...

Here are some wineries that you may enjoy visiting.  In all cases, if you show interest in the wine and wine making process, you will be rewarded.

Adea Wine Co  503-662-4509  www.adeawine.com  You can drop in anytime.

AlexEli Vineyard & Winery  503-829-6677 www.alexeli.com  Just on Weekends

Amity Vineyards  503-835-2362 www.amityvineyards.com  Just in the afternoon

Anderson Family Vineyards  503-554-5541 www.andersonfamilyvineyard.com  Very friendly family - you will enjoy your visit.

Biggio Hamina Cellars   503-737-9703 todd@biggiohamina.com  www.biggiohamina.com   Check his website before visiting.

The Carlton Winemakers Studio (503) 852-6100.  A nice studio for wine makers to show off their goods.

Hawkins Cellars Dundee Tasting Room Oregon  503-554-9885 A nice studio for wine makers to show off their goods.

Iris Vineyards www.irisvineyards.com  Out of range but worth knowing about.

Saffron Fields Vineyard  503-662-5323. www.comsaffronfields.com

Tendril Wine Cellars  503-858-4524t www.tendrilwines.com  They make their wine maker, Tony, available and he really teaches you about the science of wine making.
