Plano

Best free things to do in Plano?

I'm going to be in Plano next month and will be on a pretty tight budget. I'm looking for the best free and inexpensive things to check out! I love the outdoors, art, museums, you name it. Thanks!

Arbor Hills is a great free place to check out. Lots of trails and paths to walk or run - great place to get outside. Downtown Plano is also fun - has shops, bars, and restaurants but also just fun to walk around. Nice park nearby. Heritage Farmstead Museum is a fun little museum about the prairie region history. Used to go there for school field trips all the time!

Bob Woodruff Park is a big park with a pond and long biking/walking trails. Lots of families enjoy it. Arbor Hills Trail is great for exploring creeks, biking , walking, running on dirt or paved paths. Mid Sept they have a stellar hot air balloon show! A nearby mall has an indoor ice skating rink! Dallas Museum of Art is free!

If you have a car you may want to head just east of Plano to drive past Southfork Ranch.  Otherwise a beautiful area to check out for wandering is Arbor Hills Nature Preserve (free) in west Plano off Parker.  I would suggest an inexpensive lunch at Rusty Taco on Coit in north west Plano tacos are about 2.25 each. The Shops At Legacy has a great night life and usually has a band or 2 out, if you feel like heading a little farther north Watters Creek shopping center also has live music in the evenings http://www.watterscreek.com/events.  For a TX staple grab happy hour (free queso bar) at Chuey's there are 2 locations in Plano and you don't have to be drinking to partake in the queso bar.  If you have a way to get to the dart rail head downtown and go to  The Crow Collection of Asian Art (always free AND air conditioned) http://crowcollection.org/ You're in luck and this summer is incredibly mild, and there are tons of city pools. I will think some more but a few more fun place to see are old plano east of 75 on 15th, a drive past a few of the bigger in TX examples like Plano West senior high (only 11th and 12th grade) a mega church or the Walmart on Park and the Tollway.  If you like baseball a quick drive to Frisco will take you to a rough riders game which is fun and usually you can get a ticket for 12 that includes a hotdog.
