Plan a Disneyland trip with kiddos!

I go to Cali for vacation at least once a year, but never have any desire to visit Disneyland. Now I'm struggle... I need to plan a trip to visit Disney, plan on staying there for 2 days, one day at Disney, one day at advanture. Two kids are 5 yr old and 22 month, along with two moms. Kids probably need nap some time during the day. Hotel choice... Stay inside the Disney or outside close by? Stay inside is very expensive and from the map, it seems like you still need to walk a long way to get to your hotel. Stay outside, I'm afraid we are going to wait for a long time for the shuttle. Any advice and input? Thanks in advance!

I think the Paradise Pier hotel is a little less expensive than the Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa or Disneyland Hotel does have a monorail entrance nearby though, and Grand Californian has it's own entrance to California Adventure. If you're looking for budget, there are a lot of hotels and motels along Harbor Blvd. so definitely check into those. There will be more walking or shuttle involved, though.
