Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Question #2

Hi everyone.  I'm thinking of visiting your beautiful city (Yes!  I have recently discovered that Pittsburgh is actually a beautiful city!  I'm from Melbourne, Orstralia and am thinking of coming over there this coming June or July.

Whilst I want to visit the usual tourist destinations:  Warhol museum, Heinz field, Dahntahn, and the Strip district, I also like to spend a lot of time exploring on foot the more "workaday" parts of a city.  The neighbourhoods that I especially want to do a lot of walking around in include the following:  Allentown, Arlington, Elliot, Sheraden, Knoxville.  Also:  Troy Hill, Garfield, Rankin, Braddock, Munhall, Perry Hilltop.  My question is;  are these neighbourhoods reasonably safe to walk around in during the day?  I'm by no means a timid traveller and rough urban areas don't scare me, but at the same time, I don't want to be the guy who gets relieved of his money and mobe at knifepoint, so any advice anyone can give me would be good. Also any other advice and recommendations anyone can give me about your wonderful city would be appreciated.

 Thanks in advance,

John "Kerro" Kerrens

Shady Grove area is walkable. Carry a lighter, buy one at gas station. l stay at the downtown DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh Downtown. I am a Hilton Honors member, sign up on the phone and earn free hotel rooms. Carry $20 and ID card, leave passport in hotel safe. I travel with $100/$1&$100/$5$300/$20. For tipping, eating etc. l carry a $20 $5 $1. If l get robbed l have something on me. No worse here for you than me. I walk where the lights are on. Autozone sells keychain pepper spray.

Hey John, the Carnegie Science CenterStation SquareIncline Equity Partners, and Pointe At Adams Ridge are a few others I would recommend. The areas in your "also" categorie would not be worth going to. They are a little further away from the actual city also. Hope you have a great trip!
