Good Phoenix area hiking trails?

Of all the times I've been to Phoenix, I've never actually explored the outdoors there, and I'd like to change that! What are the best hiking spots with views in or around Phoenix that I should check out?

If you want an extreme hiking experience, try Camelback Mountain. It's a pretty steep climb with handrails in some spots, but the view at the top is a 360 panorama of Phoenix. A similar view, but slightly less strenuous is Piestewa Peak Summit Trail. There are plenty of easy to moderate hikes all around the base of the mountain too. I would also suggest Phoenix South Mountain Park. It's even a beautiful drive through if you don't feel like hiking.

Classic Phoenix trails I like are Piestewa Peak(previously named Squaw Peak) and Camelback Mountain.  They are both tough hikes since they are steep, but give a great view of the city.  A beautiful and more wild hike is at Tom's Thumb Trailhead in the McDowell Mountain Regional Park area.  Enjoy!

Piestewa Peak (Squaw Peak) is a good workout, as is Camelback Mountain (from Echo Canyon).  South Mountain has some good long hikes (Fat Man Pass is fun). Lost Dog Trail has long hikes, too.  Pinnacle Peak is a good one.  You can Google "Hikes in Phoenix/Scottsdale" for directions & for other ideas.  Take lots of water along!!

I LOVE the area around Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, and afterwards you can pop up to the top of the mountain at the Pointe Hilton for cocktails with a spectacular view, sunset from there is gorgeous!
