Any great suggestions for a 4 day road trip from Phoenix to LA

I would like to fly into Phoenix in August and drive through to LA, National Parks would be nice to visit and anything else family friendly and not too touristy.

Assuming you don't want to go up to the Grand Canyon or Los Vegas.....West of Phoenix is Kofa National Wildlife Refuge and north of there is Lake Havasu City  In California there is Joshua Tree National Park and there was (and may still be) Calico Ghost Town Campground

First of all  here is the link to national Park Service units in Arizona

 http://www.americansouthwest.net/arizona/national-parks.html

If you do try to get up to Grand Canyon National Park, it's about 3 - 4 hours North.  Along the way Sedona and Jerome (Arizona) are really neat places to visit; Flagstaff is a good place to overnight if you need to do so.  Even if you don't go to the canyon, Sedona and Jerome are near two National Monuments.

We have not ventured West to California yet, but my daughter tells me it is about 4 - 5 hours from Phoenix.

If you decide to venture to Tucson, the Saguaro National Park is there.  Kartchner Caverns State Park is east of Tucson.
