Safety and suggestions on where to stay in the Philippines?

I was told by a flight attendant that the island of Palawan is a good place to go. Any recommendations on places to see, stay and best times to go to the Philippines.

Cebu is a great home base from where you can easily travel to the other islands like Boracay Island, Bohol, Siargao Island, Dumaguete/Apo Island/Siquijor, Palawan. There are a lot of nice spots in Cebu itself too - whale watching in Oslob, snorkeling spots in Moalboal, Olango Island, Camotes Islands, Bantayan, etc. If you are looking at staying at least a month in Cebu, you can stay at nice serviced apartments like Santoni's Place (www.santonisplace.com). For Palawan, I suggest you go to El Nido or Coron rather than Puerto Princesa.

I have been going to the Philippines since 2005. My daughter was born there and have many family and friends there. The best and cheapest time to go is September to October. Palawan is ok. Boracay Island is known for its white sandy beaches. Davao City and Cagayan de Oro are ok as long as you stay where there are a lot of foreigners. Cebu and Manila are good if you like to see history a lot of history. If you are into nature then the many waterfalls and hot springs of Negros Oriental is the place to be. So the best answer to your question is . . . What do you want to do? This will dictate the best place to go.

She is right, and there are 7000+ other islands that can be good places to go also... For me, anytime is the best time to go to the Philippines (Safety is an illusion)
