What are the most popular neighborhoods in Philly?

What are the best areas to stay? Are there any cool neighborhoods for daytime events and nightlife for the 30 y/o crowd? Hotel recommendations would be awesome too.

Not sure if you've already visited Philadelphia or not, but my favorite place to just hang around during the daytime is either Rittenhouse Square or Washington Square West. If you want to grab a quick bite around that area, Reading Terminal Market is always a good place to stop. All of these are right around Center City East.

However, at night I like to go into South Philadelphia where my favorite bar, Royal Tavern is located. Good craft beers and great food!

Check out to see what events/festivals are going on in Philadelphia. Otherwise, Spruce Street Harbor Park is close to Old City and is a fun place to hang out and enjoy the day. There's also Summerfest this year with a roller skating rink and games. Some weekends there will be free concerts in that area too. Philly's also big on pop up beer gardens. There's a new one this year in south philly (9th and Wharton) which is in between the Italian Market and Passyunk Square, two good neighborhoods to check out with lots of good food options. There's another one on South St not too far from Rittenhouse Square. Northern Liberties/Fishtown are great areas to hang out as well.

For hotels you really want to stay around Rittenhouse Square area for convenience to the city. Hotel Monaco is a great choice too and is easy to get to great parts in the city, plus their rooftop bar Stratus Rooftop Lounge is one of the best in the city. Hotel Tonight is a fantastic app for last minute hotel reservations, and you can filter by trendy, luxury, etc.

Rittenhouse Square is great for happy hour, food, and early evening, some of the highlights are Parc, Rouge, Tria Cafe Rittenhouse,The Dandelion. From there you can crawl along Sansom St, cross Broad, and hit the many nightlife spots Brü Craft & Wurst, U-Bahn, Graffiti Bar, El Vez, Drury Beer Garden @ Opa.

Old City is a younger crowd but also a great mix of people and you can certainly have fun. Sassafras is fantastic for a quiet cocktail and Khyber Pass Pub is one of the best gastropubs in the city. Oh and The Franklin Fountain is open late night for that sweet fix, also helps that the ice cream is my all time favorite.

For events check out for a nice recap of upcoming events throughout the city, plus nice guides to each neighborhood.

All of Philly is very 20-30 something friendly. But I will narrow it down to Fishtown for you. It is home to some of the best bars and food in the city. Most bars have frequent events both day and night. It is also close quarters to concert halls and breweries.

I would say the Fairmount near the Art Museum and to some degree University City as well as the area of West Philadelphia near the University of Penn. Also try South Philadelphia,Society Hill, and probably Northern Liberties.
