Reading Terminal Market, housed in an old train station, a National Historic Landmark building provides a vast selection of Philly foods. Namely:

  1. Beiler's Bakery - Amish-style donuts
  2. Carmen's Famous Italian Hoagies and Philly cheesesteaks
  3. Termini Bros. Bakery for cannoli and cookies
  4. Miller's Twist  for pretzels
  5. Bassetts ice cream and milkshakes

For dinner, check out Zahav, an Israeli restaurant on St. James Pl., City Tavern, an authentic Philly tavern (as suggested by Lorraine) or Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar for Caribbean cocktails and Cuban cuisine.

City Tavern is really hard to beat for good food/price/historical value. Get reservations ahead and take a look at their website ahead. We have never had a bad meal here (although once ordered something really expensive without looking foolishly!). Can't help on drinks much-but this was lovely. Pretty sure there was a great local brewery, its just been a while. If you've done Philly before, consider going to the Adventure Aquarium across the river. Its amazing and easily overlooked!
