Arequipa or cordilleras Blancas?

We have 3 nights and 3 days to add to our time in Lima and cusco. Trying to decide between the scenic beauty of the cordilleras Blancas and some day hikes or Arequipa for the city/culture experience. Any advice? Pros/cons?

I loved Arequipa. If you do visit, don't miss Santa Catalina Monastery, it's really interesting.

Those are two pretty different experiences. The north is quite different from the south and tough to decide with just 3 days. Arequipa is a nice city to explore for a couple days or a good home base for other excursions. There are also plenty of things to experience on the way down there. Huacachinain Ica could be a stop on your way down (desert sand dunes and dune buggys). Puno has Lake Titicacawhere you can get on a boat and visit the islands and the people who live there.  Cordillera Blanca won't have the city feel, but will certainly have beautiful scenic hikes. You can snowboard and lay on the beach in the same day. Very different places with very different experiences. It does take a bit longer to go south, but a double-decker bus with a bed is also a nice and pretty cheap way to get there.
