Gold Coast to Perth / Road Trip

Hi All.
We are attempting to organise a road trip this Xmas from the Gold Coast to Perth and back.
We have allowed four nights and five days driving.
There will be four of us in the car, myself, my wife and my two boys who are eight and eleven.
My wifes family are living in Perth so we have a comfortable place to crash when we arrive.
The route we have came up with so far is Gold Coast to Tamworth or Gold Coast to Dubbo. Not sure which?
Day 2 : Tamworth or Dubbo to Broken Hill.
Day 3 : Broken Hill to Port Augusta.
Day 4 : Port Augusta to Ceduna.
Day 5 : Ceduna to Norseman.
Day 6 : Norseman to Perth.
We would appreciate any feedback you have about any of these towns or if you would suggest a different route or timeline.

You have allowed for 4 or 5 days of driving.
From the Gold Coast to Perth is a minimum of about 100 hours of driving return assuming all goes well.
This means 10 hours of driving per person per day.
The roads are changeable. Some are easy long straight stretches where people generally doze off. Others curve around hills.
If you do attempt this, make sure that you always have plenty of backup water and fuel as it can be a long way between stops. At Christmas time, temperatures can easily be above 40 degrees celcius at times.
The Gold Coast to Perth return trip is similar to driving from Portland, Maine to San Diego, California return or Oslo to Istanbul to Madrid and back to Oslo.
