Patrick from Los Angeles asked

Need recommendation on hotels in Paris

Hi, we'll be staying in Paris from 11 May to 15 May. We're looking for a nice hotel (we're open for airbnb too), that is in a safe area, close to public transportations, and still lively at night that we can walk around safely. Our budget is around $150 - $200 USD per night.

Any recommendations?

We did aribnb. It was in Bastille, just walking distance from a near by metro station. It's perfectly spaced near central Paris and fun places outside of the city of Paris.

Hello,

Paris is generally a safe city to travel around as long as you watch out for those pickpockets! Since that crowd usually frequents the most touristy areas, the best thing to do to avoid them is stay somewhere a little less touristy. If you want to stay somewhere that is still nice and accessible to the attractions via public transit, but isn't so touristy in itself I would recommend staying in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area, Père Lachaise Cemetery area, or Ménilmontant area. The Latin Quarter is more touristy since it is close to Notre Dame, but less so than say Tuileries/The Louvre area.

If you want to read more about the particulars of different Parisian neighborhoods, here is a great guide.

All of these neighborhoods I have mentioned will have accommodation in your price range. Here are a couple of suggestions that were still available for your dates at the time of writing:

Beautiful Flat, St Germain Paris:

entire spacious Airbnb apartment with a view.

Flat Père Lachaise/ near Bastille:

entire Airbnb apartment with charming interior.

QUIET STUDIO STEPS FROM NOTRE-DAME:

a studio apartment in a historic building in the Latin Quarter listed on HomeAway.

If you are leaning more toward a hotel, take a look at these:

Aparthotel Adagio Access Philippe Auguste - Aparthotel Adagio Access

or

Classics Hotel Paris BastilleClassics Hotel Bastille Paris

And a safety travel tip- always be aware of your surroundings. This is true when in any city, but it is worth mentioning. Pickpockets and snatch thieves prey on the oblivious, so if you are paying attention they are far less likely to target you. This is especially true if:

  • you are looking at your phone or map
  • you are in a crowded tourist area
  • you are at an ATM or automated ticket machine
  • in the metro or train station
  • you have been drinking
  • somebody seems to be overly friendly or distracting

I hope this was enough to get started! Have a wonderful time in Paris and if you would like some more accurate suggestions to suit your travel style and taste, contact me here.

Happy Travels!

Hi Patrick! I'm from LA too! I can recommend a hotel called Paris France Hôtel.  It was nice, comfortable- good location.  It was close to Notre-Dame de Paris and the George Pompidou.  I know the metro was pretty close - I think there were 2 stations nearby.  The hotel was reasonably priced.

This is where we stayed when we went to Paris last year and it was the most perfect place for us. Safe, great apartment, great location, and a great host (also near the best place for croissants in Paris :). Near 2 metro stations, and a 15 min walk to the Notre-Dame de Paris. Would love to return soon. I would highly recommend this place: http://www.housetrip.com/en/rentals/209337
