Hayley from Los Angeles asked

Great Restaurant for Groups?

Hi, I am looking for a great restaurant for 10 people that is fairly affordable. We are a group of graduate students celebrating before heading out for the night. We would prefer somewhere close to the Palo Alto Caltrain station.

Palo Alto

Evvia Estiatorio (a Greek restaurant) in Palo Alto is great for groups. Not cheap - but very good.

Tacolicious in Palo Alto is good, but can be busy. There are great margarita pitchers and it's decently priced for Palo Alto. Plus, it's close to the Palo Alto Caltrain Station.

I love Tacolicious! Was just at the Mission one last week. Didn't realize that there was one in Palo Alto! If it's anything like the ones in SF, it will be crowded and there will be a wait, especially for a large group, but it's worth it. Great suggestion, Hayden! :)

Ooooh, fortunately for you, the Palo Alto Caltrain Station is very centrally located and right on University Ave, where all the action is!  There are tons of good restaurants there that are pretty nice.  I'm not sure what your range of affordable is, but being that it's Palo Alto, I'd say it'd be around $30-$60+ a person if you all shared apps, had one drink and an entree each.  There's such a wide range of cuisines, I'll list out my favorites first:

Here are a few others that are good for groups in the same vicinity that are a little less expensive:

  • Nola for Southern food.  Think fried chicken, mac 'n cheese and drinks in mason jars.  Not the best I've ever had, but still pretty good, and definitely spacious.
  • Palo Alto Creamery is a cute diner.
  • Patxi's Chicago Pizza is a local favorite for deep dish/stuffed pizza.  So good!  It's a small local chain in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • There's a Buca di Beppo for Italian.
  • A Crepevine which serves crepes (duh!) and other breakfast goods all day, like omelets and eggs benedict.  It's another small Bay Area chain.
  • There's a Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant there.

Make sure to make reservations! :)

Pizzeria Delfinahas nice outdoor tables. Tacolicious is definitely affordable and fun. Reposado (higher end Mexican) could also be a good option.

One of the best sources for restaurants is Yelp or Open Table. You can search by area and cost.
