We are two couples in their 70’s exploring Norway on a cruise. We will end our trip in Oslo and are looking for some hotel/B&B accommodations. Will only be there for one night, so willing to spend to have a memorable experience. We look for something distinctively Norwegian and trending toward luxury!
From your description, this should be it: THE THIEF Harbor- and entertainment side of the city, walking distance to sights, restaurants and things to do. I haven't stayed there since I live in the Oslo area, but it's supposed to be extremely good Nordic luxury style simplicity. Not rustic, old style as you can find at the Holmenkollen hill above Oslo Scandic Holmenkollen Park which is an alternative, but far removed from the city centre. If you are not happy with the inhouse restaurant(s) at The Thief a short walk will take you to several other places to choose from. If you are flying home the next day, the AirportExpress Train is a short taxi ride away, and the train takes about half an hour from there, NOK 400 for two. A Taxi all the way should be just less than NOK 1000. Make sure to pre-order a taxi at the reception and ask for the fixed airport price.
