I'm staying near the Orange County Convention Centre next week for a conference. Keen to hear suggestions for cool bars and restaurants close to International Drive and also Orlando downtown proper.
Welcome genuine local's places from dive bars thru hipster to fine dining.
I would strongly suggest the village of Winter Park. Park Avenue is loaded with great local restaurants, bars, and wine tasting.
My absolute favorite Italian restaurant is right around the corner from where you're staying. Fresco Italian is on Turkey Lake Road near Gold's Gym. Great staff, food, and bar.

Well, International Drive might be a tough place to find anything that isn't touristy. You will be right in the middle of a busy area with some bars and restaurants. One is The Capital Grille that is right on International drive. If you want to go where the locals go, head to downtown Orlando. Some good places to eat are Eola Wine Co, Gringos Locos and Hawkers Asian Street Fare. For bars the Savoy Orlando, The Courtesy Bar, and The Imperial are a few you might want to check out. Walk around Lake Eola Park for a true local place that's great for people watching.

Emeril's Tchoup Chop is right near Universal Studios and is fantastic. I would say it is Pacific/Asian Fusion type of cuisine, great sushi also.
For a hipster vibe, I also really liked Cafe Tu Tu Tango the last time I went, but that was at least 5 or 6 years ago. It is a Tapas style restaurant, but is very quirky and artsy.
