Drive from Omaha NE to Phoenix AZ via Colorado Springs

Need to drive to Phoenix from Omaha Ne and wanted to take the scenic route, initially we were gonna go I70 West stop in Glenwood Springs (10 hrs) stay a night and drive the rest of the way via Moab Ut the next day. But with the fires need to change the route. Thought of going via Colorado Springs. Wondered if any one had any suggestions. Also we are getting a late start because of work and leaving NE around noon, we would like to drive at least 10 hrs which would put us around Trinidad CO. Is this feasible and how are those roads at night? Have never driven this route before, Thanks

Depending on how you're going into Phx you'll have some mountain roads (Flagstaff vs splitting off at Holbrook and going to the east side via hwy 87) but otherwise the road is a pretty easy drive through CO into NM. Time of year can affect the Raton Pass but shouldn't be too bad until winter months, and you skirt south of any other real mountain roads before you get to Santa Fe.
I will give you a heads up I don't recall many gas stations or stopping places between the NM/AZ border and Phoenix but I also took Holbrook through more mountainy roads which cut off a good 2 hours from my trip had I went though Flag.
