Ideas for a one week stay in Norway

What to see, places to stay and go out!

How much could it cost? What is a good budget for one week?

We spent two weeks in Norway in May and it was absolutely breath-taking. We went for our 25th anniversary and when we told people where we were going, many of them asked, "Why Norway???" During our trip, I said that I wanted to start a website called "THIS is why Norway" and post photos of all the things we saw. You can point a camera almost anywhere and it's an incredible sight ... and such a wide range of sights, too.

Highlights for us were:

  1. The Norway in a Nutshell train/ferry/bus trip from Oslo to Bergen. (Make sure to include the Flåm Railway.)
  2. Taking the Hurtigruten ferry up the coast.
  3. The Lofoten Islands. (We rented a car at Harstad and then drove to Å and back. We stayed overnight at Reine ... stellar.)
  4. Geiranger
  5. Driving the Trollstigen road.
  6. Driving the The Atlantic Road
  7. Preikestolen

You couldn't do all of that in one week, but you could easily to 1, 4, and 5. (You could get a couple others done, too ... it depends on your style of travel.) If I could only do one week, I'd do those three items for sure (although the Lofotens are spectacular).

Norway is so very very expensive.  We just knew that heading in and did our best not to look at prices as we purchased things....have a great time, it is worth every penny.
