I would like to travel to North Korea this year. I know that this is only possible booking a tour with a travel agency.
Can you recommend an agency? How does it work?
Tipps and online resources for more information would be helpful, too.
I haven't been there but was planning to one time. Heres one i was eyeing for:
Basically you book a tour with an agency, choose your hotels and destinations prior to your visit, and when you're going around, you'll have 2 guides with you. One female and one male even if you're alone. You can fly there via China only. Although most people wont go there, surprisingly, thousands of Chinese go there each year.
If your'e taking photographs. Take those that are only nice to see. You wont be able to bring home photos about poverty, abuse, oppression, or anything negative about the country. They check you camera media cards and will delete those they don't like.
Best to learn their culture going. Saw a feature on national geographic where a video guy went on his knees to shoot a low angle video of the statue of Kim Jong-Il and he was arrested. They said he dishonored their leader.
Thanks for your tips, guys!
Meanwhile I booked a tour with Koryo Tours, tomorrow I'll fly to Beijing, on Thursday we'll head off to a 9 day trip to North Korea. I'm super excited! :)
There are several tour companies that "go" to North Korea. I say "go" in quotes because once you are in-country you are basically on the same basic government/military tour. Of all the places I've been in the world, this was the most fascinating experience. I could go on for way too long about our time there, but it's probably easiest for you to check out our blog about the experience and see photos. If you want to go, here is the most complete list of DPRK tour operators.
I found a most interesting group with which to travel to the DPRK that is outside of the usual experience. Google: Pyongyang Project. You must apply via application. Check it out! Good luck. j
If you are on Instagram, check out Drew Kelly's insightful photos on the country:
You can also fly in via Kuala Lumpur from Singapore:
I have not been to North Korea but hope to go there one day too.
Viel Glück und sag mal Bescheid, wenn die Reise klappt!! ;)
