Katie from Los Angeles asked

Best free things to do in Newark (New Jersey)?

I'm going to be in Newark (New Jersey) next month and will be on a pretty tight budget. I'm looking for the best free and inexpensive things to check out! I love the outdoors, art, museums, you name it. Thanks!

You can't beat the arts in Newark!  The Newark Museum is world-class, and galleries such as Aferro and Aljira are fabulous.  Take a glassblowing class at GlassRoots, visit the beautiful Branch Brook Park, take in a show at NJPAC.  Take a train down to the Jersey Shore or hop over to NYC.  Newark is a great place to visit!  https://newarkarts.org/galleries/

Newark Museum isn't free but it's  a wonderful museum that you probably won't go to otherwise- best Tibetan collection in US and good collection of 19th and 20th Century American art. The Newark Public Library is nearby and it is a nice building.Sacred Heart Cathedral is pretty.Outdoors-Branch Brook Park.
