Museum Obscura

Having been to New York many times I’ve kind of done all the major museums so I’m looking for some really obscure ones for this next trip. Any suggestions?

Definitely check out the Rubin Museum of Arton 17th. It’s devoted to Himalayan art and they always seem to put some kind of interesting twist on whatever they’re showing. I’m going later this week to see a screening of a movie Peter Sellers directed of a Cambodian dance troupe. They do some really, really interesting stuff.

I’m sure you probably know about the Museum of Sex, right?

The Brooklyn Museum isn’t that obscure but it’s always interesting. They’ve got a couple of great exhibits going on now including one of an artist who only works in bottle caps. Also, keep in mind that the main library always has interesting exhibits going on. I think people forget it doubles as a museum.

Neue Galerie New York– really cool German and Austrian art

The Morgan Library & Museum– I don’t know why more people don’t go to this—amazing exhibits and a great place to have lunch

The Museum at FIT – great if you love fashion

El Museo del Barrio- great museum of Latin art--always something interesting there!
