We are looking for some recommendations for an itinerary for a 2 weeks US east cost trip. This will be the first time family and friends trip. There will be 10 adults and 6 children. We plan to go from 11 aug-14 to 23-aug-14. We'd like to keep budget to a minimum, for example, budget below 75 $/day for a hotel room.
Tentatively beginning from New Jersey to New York, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Niagara Falls, Orlando etc.
Is this a good itinerary? What should we see and where should we stay?
I use priceline.com and bid for hotels. Select the number of stars for the quality of hotel you'd like then place your bid. You may end up in downtown Philly or in the outlying areas. You can specify that you want to stay downtown or an area like the west side or the north side, etc. If you are driving, it is better to stay on the outer areas of the city to avoid the fees for parking. Very few hotels have their own parking for free in the downtown historical area.

Your itinerary is a bit ambitious to include Niagara Falls (600km from NYC) and Orlando (1700km away). You can see a lot if you based yourself in northern New Jersey (many Indian communities there, by the way) and drove or took the train to New York City and Philadelphia (though I recommend against driving in NYC). Then you should travel to Washington, DC and stay there. Hotels in Virginia (Arlington/Alexandria) would be closer to the sights in Washington than Maryland and more easily accessible by the Metro.
