Abby from Corona del Mar, California asked

Any fashion tours and exhibits in NYC?

Does anyone know if Diane Von Furstenburg has tours of her store in the meat packing district by the high-line?

Also looking for recommendations of exhibits and tours featuring fashion design and interior design.

New York City (New York)

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a must. For interior design, stop by Aero in Soho. Probably the best home interiors store in NY.  Also FLAIR NEW YORK just few blocks away.  Pearl River Mart before they close for deals. NY Antique Showplace is five floors of glorious junk and visit the new flagship Room & Board - Chelsea - NY Flagship in Chelsea.

Hi Abby. Recovering NYC fashion designer/now interiors photographer here. I've never heard of any tours around the city or in stores. Not sure when you're coming but the Met still has the Chinese Through the Looking Glass exhibit through the end of this month. And there's a Costume Institute museum inside FIT, a fashion-centric university here. Otherwise, wandering through NYC's cutting edge retailers around Meatpacking and maybe Williamsburg might be interesting.

As for interiors, you might come across a neighborhood house walk, a designer showcase house or one of the few really amazing design conferences that happen citywide friending again on when you're here. You might see if the New York Design Center allows lay people to walk around. And, again, stores like ABC, Arterior Home, interior stores around Flatiron and the antique shops around Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn. When are you coming?

Thank you so much Reagan. My mom and I are coming in mid September. I have been wanting to see the Chinese ThroughThe Looking Glass Exhibit for a long time now. We have been to New York City before on previous mother daughter trips, but it has been at least 5 years since our last trip. What stores do you recommend we look at in Williamsburg? That is one area we have not explored. Also we have not ventured to Brooklyn. Thanks again for your input!!

You could make an entire day out of Brooklyn and should if you've never been and that's not including South Brooklyn where I live. If you go on a Saturday, you can take the East River Ferry from E 34 straight to the Saturday Smorgasburg in Williamsburg for lunch (http://brooklynflea.com/) and then walk three avenues East to Bedford which is the main drag of the neighborhood with all the boutiques. Vogue did a good write up of Williamsburg shopping--http://www.vogue.com/866333/best-brooklyn-stores/--and it's a neighborhood conducive to putzing around popping in and out of interesting shops. If you stay late enough, you might enjoy a drink on the roof of the Wythe Hotel and even dinner in that neighborhood. Let me know if you want a recommendation for dinner or tips for South Brooklyn (Cobble HIll, Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope).
